What if i'm nervous before my driving test?

Tips for Driving Test nerves

Feeling nervous before all kinds of tests and exams is completely normal, and the practical driving test is no exception, but don't worry too much as your driving examiner will understand this anxiety and will try to make you feel at ease.

Here are a few simple things you can do to help manage your nerves as you approach your practical driving test.

  • Avoid taking your practical driving test when you're dealing with other stressful situations, such as moving house, starting a new job or sitting your school exams.

  • Make sure to get enough restful sleep before your test, feeling tired and fatigued may cause you to feel stressed.

  • Try to steer clear of excessive caffeine or high-energy drinks before your driving test as it could lead to you feeling irritable and restless. Remember to opt for a more moderate amount to stay focused and calm during your driving test.

  • Be positive, concentrate on succeeding in your test rather than stressing about not doing well. Stay present and focused.

Booked your driving test but not feeling ready?

You can move your practical driving test back if you’re not feeling quite ready yet.

It’s free to change your appointment time, as long as you do it at least 3 full working days (Mondays to Saturdays) before your test.
